About the CCRC

Check out our annual activities and events to see what we do throughout the year.

(for more info check out our facebook page)

It's time to renew your membership or join for the first time. We operate on an academic year cycle: memberships need to be renewed each September-October.

Who can become a member of the CCRC? Anyone! We welcome teachers, book lovers, students - anyone in the community who loves literacy. Your membership means that you will receive council information via email. Membership fees support costs associated with teacher professional development, community literacy activities, classroom and community book purchases, and author/illustrator presenter fees.

The Copper Country Reading Council (CCRC) is a non-profit organization. We foster literacy for a lifetime in Michigan's Copper Country. Our projects involve providing events and activities of interest to teachers, community members, and kids. We offer professional development opportunities such as workshops and book studies when possible. This year we are focusing efforts on donating books to local children.  We have a book shelf set up at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital where children can choose and keep a book of their choice.

In the past few years we have hosted children's author, Aimee Bissonette. Aimee's two recent publications (Northwoods Girl and Miss Colfax's Light) have been used to serve as inspiration for the North Woods Kids project. NWK is an annual contest and exhibition available to any student writer or artist in region 9 of MRA (Michigan Reading Association).

Keweenaw Reads is a summer reading community event that the CCRC has also been part of. It has been quite well received--each book has left an indelible impression on readers who find connections with others through book discussions.

Lastly, our council recognizes the importance of our local education professionals to have opportunities to connect and share with one another. We will be holding 3 byobook events this year; where we will meet up at local restaurants, and share some great books. See our events calendar for more details!
